A fire panel technician who visited Ryman Healthcare’s construction site in Burwood East has tested positive to coronavirus.
The technician visited the site of the planned retirement village and aged-care facility near Burwood Brickworks and the RSPCA on Burwood Highway last Wednesday to carry out some work on one of the buildings.
A Ryman Healthcare spokesman said the technician was at the site on Wednesday only and had no contact with any other employees while he was there.
The spokesman said about three to four days later when the man was working at a different construction site he started feeling unwell and tested positive for COVID-19.
“His employer contacted us this morning (Monday) to let us know and, as a precautionary measure, we immediately ceased work on the building he visited so it could undergo a deep clean,” the spokesman said.
“As the contractor entered the site he went through a COVID-19 screening process, which included a temperature check, a risk assessment declaration, and the recording of his contact details.”
Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to make an announcement on the future of a number of industries, including construction, on Monday afternoon, in light of Victoria entering stage 4 lockdown restrictions.
