Regular visitors to a mid-size eastern suburb shopping centre are calling for a revamp so it can keep itself in the game after a massive overhaul at The Glen.
And they were very particular in what they want to see at Brandon Park Shopping Centre on the Monash Leader Facebook page as part of our Love Where You Shop campaign.
Sarah Frances said the Wheelers Hill-based centre needed: “Target, play centre for parents and bubs, McDonalds, a massive face lift. Thursday and Friday nights the shops are supposed to be open until 9pm, instead they all shut shop by 7.30-8pm,” while Kathy Constantinou-Dunster said it needed a “total overhaul. Too many nail salons, there’s two doctors, two hearing places, two chemists etc — no interesting shops.”
Brigit Shannon said the centre needed to lift its profile to attract punters in the face of the massive revamp to The Glen.
“Also, with an ageing population there needs to be more disabled/senior parking. Unless I’m there at 9am, I very rarely can find a spot close to the doors,’’ she said
Tina Tina said she was a fan of the Coles but the rest of the centre needed a “big facelift”, while Jackie Sullivan August said it needed more popular shops and had too many beauty stores.
Others called for more variety in the food court and stories such as Kikki K, Typo, Cotton On, AFL store, Blue Illusion.
The centre does have its fans, however.
Jodie Turner said: “I really like Brandon Park as it is. I’d much rather shop here than The Glen or Chadstone. I can always get a parking space. Maybe a few more eating options would be good.”
But centre manager Samantha Murphy, from CBRE, which looks after Brandon Park, said since the centre was bought — by Newmarket Capital for $135 million — there had been a facelift to the common mall area, painting works, lighting replacements and new seating pods for shoppers

“This has been completed to refresh and upgrade the centre and many have commented on how great the centre looks,’’ she said.
Ms Murphy said the centre had welcomed Saffron Delights, Brow Arc, First Poultry and Creative Sparx as tenants in the past 18 months.
And there was no need to take on The Glen, she said, as both centres served different needs.
