A troubled Nunawading outlet centre is undergoing major changes.
The Brand Smart outlet mall, located on Whitehorse Rd, Nunawading, will close down all its shops apart from the food retailers in November after it was sold earlier this year.
Centre management said the centre was not shutting down but “being reinvigorated to bring new retailers that better align with the needs of the community”.
The shopping centre has been rumoured to be turning into a Tesla dealership, after a planning application was lodged with the Whitehorse City Council in May.
Tesla is the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer and is owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
The application said the premises would be used for motor vehicle sales and motor repairs as well as a restricted recreation facility.
Stores in the centre have began major discount sales to get rid of inventory before they close.
Many stores have already left the complex after years of dwindling shoppers at the centre.
Only 24 stores remained at the centre in August despite there being 60 available tenancies.
The remaining brands include City Chic, Oroton, Gazman, Bendon, Sheridan, Trenery and more.
