Box Hill’s 35-storey, 122.8m Sky One apartment building will launch this weekend

A DEVELOPER is pushing to build one of the tallest buildings outside Melbourne’s CBD — a 120m high apartment block.

THE battle to build the tallest building in Box Hill will heat up this weekend with the launch of the 35-storey Sky One apartment building.

Formerly known as Sovereign Square, the massive development at 545 Station St is set to be even taller than first planned, with owners the Golden Age Group asking Whitehorse Council to approve a planning amendment to increase its height to 122.8m.

This would make it stand above the previous tallest approved building in Box Hill, the nearby Whitehorse Towers at 115m and 36-storeys tall, and make it one of the tallest towers in suburban Melbourne.

Golden Age Group is officially launching the sales period this Saturday for the project, which includes 434 apartments above a three-level food emporium and health, wellbeing and beauty hub.

Sky One is the second project in Box Hill by the Golden Age Group, a Melbourne-based Chinese development company founded by managing director Jeff Xu.

Its first Box Hill development, Jade Apartments, earned critical design acclaim when it won 2011 Royal Institute of Architects state and national awards.

Mr Xu said Sky One would bring “high-end CBD sophistication and quality” to the suburb.

“We recognise this is a very important site and so we are creating a dynamic, distinctive building that will add vitality, vibrancy and quality to the local community and become a central hub for Box Hill,” Mr Xu said.

The developer engaged leading Australian architectural firm DKO, whose director Jesse Linardi said he was proud of the sculpted glass and metal tower.

“Sky One will be seen from great distances because it is surrounded by low rise buildings and sits on the peak of Box Hill’s central hill, giving it a unique vantage point,” Mr Linardi said.
