From infinity pools to steam rooms, there’s no shortage of luxury high-rise developments coming to Box Hill. Check out the top 10 tallest buildings.

Described as Melbourne’s second CBD, Box Hill’s skyline continues to grow, with more high-rises on the way.

Box Hill is designated as a Metropolitan Activity Centre under state policy Plan Melbourne, and is to be the focus of substantial development, growth and investment.

We take a look at the new towers planned for the growing suburb, and the high-rises already home to hundreds of residents, from tallest to shortest.

VICINITY CENTRES’ TOWER

Next to Box Hill train station

Height: 48 storeys

A 48-level, 43,000sq m residential building is set to become the tallest building in Box Hill.

The building is part of Vicinity Centres’ 10-year plan to revitalise Box Hill.

It will include 366 apartments, 7000sq m of office space, and retail on the ground level, trading onto a revitalised Main St.

SKY ONE

Height: 36 storeys

Completed in 2019, Sky One is Box Hill’s tallest building, soaring 122m.

As well as 438 apartments, developer Golden Age Group recently launched Sky One Plaza, spread over the first three levels of the tower, which offers premium retail and hospitality offerings, including China’s largest hot pot chain, Haidilao.

WHITEHORSE TOWERS

850 Whitehorse Rd

Height: 36 storeys

The Deague Group’s $330 million Whitehorse Towers project, which stands at 36 storeys, was the tallest building outside the CBD when it was built in 2017.

The development offers a mix of one and two-bedroom residential apartments, boutique hotel The Chen, retail outlets and eateries.

TRIO BOX HILL

845-851 Whitehorse Rd

Height: 36 storeys

Work began on biggest construction project in Box Hill’s history last October, with the three tower development, ranging from 16 to 36 levels, to be situated on top of a six-level podium.

Described as “tailored for multi-generational living”, Trio will include two towers of residential apartments designed to suit singles, couples and families, and a third tower offering senior living apartments and a two-level childcare facility.

Amenities will include communal gardens, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, infinity pool, sauna and steam room.

The developer said a wealth of retail, dining and entertainments options will be incorporated into the development, in addition to an eight-level car park, 126 hotel rooms and two levels of office and function spaces.

PANORAMA BOX HILL

826-834 Whitehorse Rd

The 30-storey tower at 826-834 Whitehorse Rd will contain 382 apartments, as well as offices and retail space on the ground floor.

The Herald Sun previously reported the Peddle Thorp architects design would include high-rise gardens on levels six, eight and the rooftop.

It will also offer “exclusive” retail outlets and eateries located along the ground floor, a fully equipped gym, luxury rooftop function room and elegant dining spaces, along with views across Melbourne’s skyline.

PROSPECT BOX HILL

9 Prospect St

Height: 25 storeys

Opposite the Box Hill Central multi-level carpark, this new development will offer “five-star amenities” – including a porte cochere (covered entrance for cars) pool, gym and concierge service – which the developer says will deliver “contemporary convenience amid a hotel-style living experience”.

One-bedroom apartments start from $469,000, with three-bedroom apartments selling from $1.146m.

The towers’ East Wing will be based on the Asian continent, featuring dark compositions of stones and timber, while the West Wing will be inspired by Nordic design and light, bright colours.

VICINITY CENTRES’ COMMERCIAL TOWER

Height: 25 storeys

The Box Hill Central shopping centre owners are also planning to construct a 25-level, 42,000sq m commercial office building in the heart of the town centre, next to Box Hill train station, as part of its plan to revitalise the area.

THE TIMES BOX HILL

843 Whitehorse Rd

Height: 24 storeys

Next to the TRIO development, The Times Box Hill promises to offer a “revolution in smart community living”.

The 24-storey tower will include 366 apartments, with early construction to start in August.

According to developer Poly Global, there will also be open space, community areas, shared facilities, as well as family friendly inclusions such as a basketball court, gym and multimedia room.

The developer expects potential buyers will be downsizers, first homebuyer, investors and young couples.

AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE

913 Whitehorse Rd

Heights: 20 storeys

Completed in 2015, the ATO building was described by developer Grocon as a new 19,000sq m, A-grade office tower, which became home the 1250 ATO staff.

The building made headlines in 2016, when it was revealed squat toilets, favoured in parts of Asia and Europe, had been included in the design.

TEMPO BOX HILL

2 Bruce St

The $114m luxury high-rise will feature New York-style loft apartments, the first of their type for the suburb

MAB Corporation released plans for the project last May, which will be built in Bruce St.

Tempo Box Hill will include 28 one and two-bedroom lofts, which will have twice the ceiling height of standard apartments and feature a mezzanine level intended for use as a spare room or study.

In total, Tempo will have 159 apartments of up to four bedrooms, with three luxury penthouses also planned for the 19-storey tower.

The mixed-use development will also feature a cafe at ground level, with the building facade to include green climbers in a bid to fit in with the leafy precinct.

Common areas will include a music room, lounge, gym and library, with a barbecue and spa terrace on level 11 boasting magnificent views of Box Hill Gardens.
