A staff member from Selene’s Chocolate Bar at Box Hill Central shopping centre has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

In an update on the Box Hill Central website, the centre said its team had been notified of a confirmed case of coronavirus in a team member who last worked at Selene’s on Thursday July 16.

The update said the team at Selene’s was continuing to work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services, and, as a precautionary measure, the store would be thoroughly cleaned and was closed with all staff members self-isolating.

The centre said it had received no advice which indicated there was any risk to customers or retail team members who visited Box Hill Central.

The statement said the centre had increased its cleaning roster since learning of the case, with additional focus on specific areas including handrails, toilets, door handles, sinks, change tables and parents’ rooms, as well as communal furniture throughout the centre.

This will continue for the foreseeable future.

Major shopping centres recently came under scrutiny for not posting coronavirus cases on social media.

In an update on its website on July 20, Box Hill Central said there was also a confirmed case of coronavirus in a staff member at the Home Ideas store, who last worked on July 19.

It said staff at the store were working closely with the DHHS, and as a precautionary measure the store had been thoroughly cleaned and was closed with all staff members self-isolating until August 2.

There are 57 active cases of coronavirus in Whitehorse, according to Monday’s figures from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Past cases include a staff member from Uniting AgeWell in Box Hill and a staff member from the Coles’ Vermont South supermarket.
