Ice cream-lovers, get excited. Ben and Jerry’s will open a second scoop shop in Victoria, and the popular US chain has chosen a venue in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The environmentally-focused company has confirmed it will be set up a store within the Burwood Brickworks shopping centre, which is expected to launch in December — just in time for summer.

And sweet tooths can expect much more from the shop than what’s available at the company’s mini-stores inside Hoyts cinemas at Chadstone and Eastland shopping centres.

Ben and Jerry's Burwood store will offer 26 flavours of ice cream.

As well as 26 different flavours of ice cream, the Scoop Shop will offer milkshakes, smoothies, sundaes, coffees, hot chocolates and baked treats.

Think brownies, Belgian waffles and chocolate chip cookies.

The Burwood ice cream heaven will also offer ice cream cakes, which will be able to be made to order, and catering to anywhere within an hour’s drive of the shopping centre.

Ben and Jerry’s ANZ business development manager Bruce Lambert said the ice cream giant was doing more and more catering, delivering and serving ice cream at birthday parties, weddings and even bar mitzvahs.

Mr Lambert said the much-loved US company was really excited to be opening at Burwood Brickworks.

He said the company had been drawn to the new centre’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, which aligned with its own aims as a B-Corp certified organisation.

“It felt like a natural fit,” Mr Lambert said.

Frasers Property is aiming for Burwood Brickworks to be the world’s greenest retail development.

It is on track to be the first to achieve the Living Building ChallengeTM certification, meaning it will generate more energy than it consumes, retains and recycles all of the water it uses and dedicates 20 per cent of its site footprint for food growing

Mr Lambert said Ben and Jerry’s was also very focused on the environment.

It uses eco-friendly products like reclaimed timber to construct its stores and has banned the use of plastic spoons and straws with its treats.

“We’re working towards removing all single-use plastic,” he said.

Mr Lambert said the company’s social mission was also a huge part of how it ran the shops, and it was therefore looking for a local franchisee to take charge of the Burwood store.

The company wants someone who is part of the local community to run the scoop shop, so they will be able to run initiatives and be part of projects in the nearby area.

For example, on June 8 Ben and Jerry’s store in Manly, NSW, helped run a beach clean up for World Oceans Day, even providing a free scoop of ice cream to anyone who collected a bag of litter.

Anyone interested in running the store should visit benandjerry.com.au.

Ben and Jerry’s other Victorian Scoop Shop can be found on Flinders Lane in the CBD.
