A man has been convicted and fined after he was found in possession of a war chest of illegal firearms, ammunition and knives in Glen Waverley.

Arthur Blair faced Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on June 10 and pleaded guilty to a series of gun and weapon possession charges.

Court documents showed the Illegal Firearms Squad collared Blair on October 21, 2021 and found him in possession of a handgun, a longarm firearm, ammunition and seven flick knives, without appropriate licences or permits.

The court also heard Blair had also imported silencers from overseas and had failed to store the weapons and ammunition securely.

Magistrate Matthew White told Blair his offending was “very serious” and possessing the silencers in particular ”adds another reason of concern”.

He spared him jail time due to his early plea and no prior convictions, judging Blair as “otherwise of good character”.

But Mr White felt a fine reflecting the seriousness of the offending was appropriate.

“The community does not tolerate unlicensed and unregistered firearms … or individuals with them,” he said.

Blair was convicted and fined him $3500 for all matters, and Mr White also ordered forfeiture of all items seized.
