The man who allegedly assaulted a 76-year-old man with a brick at a Burwood bus stop will stay in custody until his next court appearance.

Bradley Thompson, 34, fronted the Ringwood Magistrates Court via video link from custody on Friday.

He was charged with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, common law assault and assault with a weapon.

Police will allege Mr Thompson approached the elderly victim while he was waiting a Station St, Burwood bus stop at 1.45pm on November 16.

Mr Thompson allegedly picked up a brick and assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.

The victim was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries after the attack.

During his brief court appearance, Mr Thompson’s lawyer Sarah Pratt asked for an adjournment and no bail application was made.

The court was told Mr Thompson was withdrawing from drugs of dependence in custody.

An unknown woman called out “love you Brad” before the end of the matter.

Mr Thompson will next appear before the Ringwood Magistrates Court in January.
