A RUN-DOWN former gym could soon make way for a $35 million, 133-dwelling housing development at a major Wheelers Hill intersection.
Developer Jells Hill Pty Ltd has submitted plans to Monash Council for the townhouse and apartment building project at the corner of Ferntree Gully Rd and Jells Rd.

The development would replace Lifestyle Fitness, which closed a year ago, and would include 22 two and three-storey townhouses and five apartment buildings ranging between two and five storeys.
The development will also have 267 on-site car spaces, with most being within a basement car park.
Councillor Shane McCluskey said he was keen to hear feedback on the proposal from neighbours and people in the area.
“With Monash’s strong garden city character, I want to explore what people think of the removal of vegetation that is being proposed,” Cr McCluskey said.
“At the moment there is longstanding vegetation on the property that works as a screen between it and the neighbouring homes, so I think some people would be concerned with the plans to get rid of the vegetation on the site.
“It has been dormant there for a while, so it is good to see that something is going to happen with that property, but it needs to be respectful of the existing homes and character of the area.”
Mayor Rebecca Paterson said the official advertising period for the proposal ended on June 13.
“However objections or submissions can be lodged with council up until the time a decision is made,” Cr Paterson said.
