A Mildura driver drove a car with smashed windscreens, no mirrors and wiring exposed inside, before doing a wheelie on a motorbike as he reached speeds of up to 167km/h, a court has heard.

Dennis Johnson was disqualified from driving for your years in Mildura Magistrates Court this week and ordered to pay more than $2000 in fines after he pleaded guilty to a string of charges.

The court heard Mr Johnson was pulled over by police for dangerous driving and driving unregistered vehicles twice in August last year.

An unmarked car stopped Mr Johnson’s vehicle on Wednesday August 18 on San Mateo Avenue.

Mr Johnson’s car had no registration plates and the court heard officers saw multiple mechanical issues with the vehicle.

The rear suspension components were worn out, there was exposed wiring inside the vehicle, broken mirrors and the front windscreen was smashed.

Mr Johnson had also failed to display P plates.

The vehicle was deemed unroadworthy and in breach of the unregistered permit conditions. Mr Johnson claimed he “did not know” that driving the vehicle was outside of his permit conditions.

The preliminary oral fluid test indicated there were prescribed illicit drugs present in Mr Johnson’s system.

Mr Johnson refused to undergo a further test.

He was then pulled over again a few days later after the police air wing saw him driving a motorcycle with no plates and one wheel in the air at excessive speeds of up to 167km an hour. The bike was unregistered.

When asked if he thought what he did was the right thing to do, Mr Johnson responded “not sure. It was probably a bit stupid if I was sitting on them speeds, endangering myself and others”.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan acknowledged he didn’t believe Mr Johnson had ill intentions but disqualified Mr Johnson from driving for four years.

He was also ordered to pay $2500 in fines.
