“There is a sub-segment of self-entitled boys and I’m worried they are growing in number,” Dr Carr-Gregg said.

He said parents had to set boundaries and impose consequences for their son’s inappropriate actions and demand respect.

“One boy used his father’s stolen credit card and when I asked what the consequences were, the father said ‘I told him not to do it again’ — a massive fail,” he said.

Dr Carr-Gregg said teenage boys were often physically mature, but mentally and emotionally immature, which could lead to them being violent and destructive.

“They can stand over their mothers and sometimes hit them — 70 per cent of mothers have felt physically threatened by their sons, and that’s not acceptable,” he said.
