An elderly woman has died following a crash at Carrum last week.

The incident happened at the Station St and McLeod Rd intersection just before 7pm on November 10.

The 75-year-old Chelsea resident sustained upper body injuries when her Madza sedan collided with a Toyota ute.

She sadly died in the Alfred Hospital on November 12.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman told the Leader no charges had been laid.

“The 20-year-old male driver and the 19-year-old male passenger of the ute, both from Berwick, stopped to assist at the scene and were uninjured,” she said.

The accident comes months after the intersection was transformed in a bid to improve safety as part of level crossing removal works.

Boomgates were removed and the area’s two arterial roads — McLeod Rd and Nepean Hwy — were connected, with dedicated lanes introduced for traffic turning right into McLeod Rd from Station St.

But concerned residents believe the intersection is still a danger spot, with dozens taking to Facebook to voice their concerns following the Tuesday night incident.

“Was only a matter of time, confusing intersection,” one man posted to Carrum and Patterson Lakes Noticeboard.

“Removed dangerous level crossing, installed dangerous, confusing intersection … it was a time bomb waiting to happen,” another wrote.

Investigators urge anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
