A Mildura man who went on a wild crime spree has been jailed after pleading guilty to a stack of charges.
Brodie Petit, 26, appeared at Mildura Magistrates Court on Monday via AV Link from remand to face the music on 14 charges related to an aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a bank card, committing crimes while on bail and driving offences.
Petit broke into an elderly couple’s house on the evening of January 30, 2024, stealing the keys to a 2009 Toyota Camry before making off with the car.
Less than 48 hours later, Petit stole a bank card and two international drivers licences in Robinvale. He used the bank card to buy groceries and fuel valued at over $100.
Later that same morning he was spotted by police in Mildura and failed to stop after police had attempted to pull him over.
He was tracked to a block of units near the intersection at Ontario Dr and Tenth St where he was arrested.
Magistrate Patrick Southey told Petit that if it wasn’t for his guilty plea he would have been sentenced to nine months in prison.
Petit was sentenced to six months’ prison with 57 days reckoned as time served.
