The owner of a Bendigo brewery has been busted crashing his car while drink driving at almost four times the limit.
Trew Brew boss Lachlan Poyser pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday to charges of drink driving and driving unlicensed.
Witnesses reported hearing a crash before finding Lachlan Poyser, 36, “unsteady on his feet” on Bakewell St in July last year, the court heard.
The owner of Trew Brew brewery was taken back to Bendigo police station where he returned a BAC reading of 0.192 – almost four times the limit.
Poyser’s lawyer said the brewery boss had “shown genuine remorse” and had he had “learned his lesson”, asking for no conviction to be recorded against Poyser due to his lack of criminal history.
Arguing for “mercy” from the court, Poyser’s lawyer said the drink driver was a “very reputable member of the Bendigo community”, and was supported by his well-to-do parents.

The presiding magistrate said Poyser was an “absolute fool” who “could have killed someone”.
“You could have killed a child,” he said.
Poyser was fined $2200 without conviction and disqualified his licence for the minimum 19 months, backdated to July last year.
The magistrate said he was giving Poyser an “opportunity to learn your lesson”.
“If you do it again, you’re going to go to jail,” he said.
