Swan Hill farmer’s leg caught in silo in north western Victoria

Emergency services are racing to a north western Victorian property to save a man trapped in a silo.

A chopper as been sent out to save an injured man trapped in a silo on a north western Victorian property.

A State Emergency Service spokesman said crews were called to Meatian, in the Swan Hill area, following reports of a “peripheral entrapment” at 1.30pm, on Tuesday September 14.

He said the person’s leg was caught in the silo and they were trapped on the north western property, 199km north west of Bendigo.

A Country Fire Authority spokeswoman said Goschen and Ultima volunteer crews attended the Meatian West Rd property.

She said the man’s leg was caught in an auger while sweeping the inside of an empty silo.

“Upon arrival, it turned out the man was not trapped but was unable to get himself out through the raised door of the empty silo,” she said.

“Ambulance Victoria paramedics were able to reach him and stretcher him out.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man in his 50s suffered lower body injuries, but was not believed to be critical.

He was to Bendigo hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

A WorkSafe spokeswoman said the safety watchdog was making inquires into the Meatian incident.
