Six men have been charged after Bendigo police broke up an alleged organised crime drug operation.
Police raided a factory in Kangaroo Flat on Tuesday revealing a “sophisticated hydroponic set up” where more than 500 cannabis plants were being grown.
Police estimate the drugs seized had a street value of more than $500,000.
“Victoria Police is intent on dismantling organised crime groups, including those cultivating any illicit substance for profit,” Bendigo detective Inspector Dan Davison said.
“Cannabis cultivation is often used to fund a wide range of other criminal enterprises which further harm the community.”
Six Kangaroo Flat men tried allegedly to flee the scene on foot, but were collared and charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and remanded to appear before Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Nam Van Phan, 28, Hoang Son Nguyen, 20, Tuan Nguyen, 27, Nam Dang, 28, Mai Van Hung, 54 and Luan Duc Mai, 26 made no applications for bail.
The accused drug farmers will remain in custody ahead of a committal on April 4, 2025.
