A developer has proposed a new fast food hub in Bendigo, with a Hungry Jacks, Oporto and a pizza shop on the menu.
Three “convenience restaurants” built on a vacant lot on Napier St, White Hills with 32 parking spaces on site as part of the $3m project.
The Hungry Jacks would seat up 36 patrons for dine in and have a take away drive-through.
The burger joint would employ about 10 staff and operate from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.
The Oporto would seat 24 patrons and a drive-through and would operate 10am – 10pm, Monday to Sunday.
About eight staff would be employed at the Portuguese-themed chicken shop.
There would also be a takeaway pizza shop operating 10am 10pm, Monday to Sunday and employ about six staff.
It would be takeaway only with no dining in. It is not clear which brand would be taking the spot.
The developer anticipates the development would generate 300 cars during evening peak hour with cars making a left exit onto either Napier St or Hall St.
Town planner Shannon O’Brien stated the development was designed to “minimise noise emissions to sensitive areas” and to “reduce amenity impacts including through the design and location of the building”.
“Ongoing operational conditions can be imposed to manage effects resulting from litter and odour.”
The site is located nearby an existing McDonalds and service stations.
Located 5km northeast of Bendigo’s CBD, Ms O’Brien said the new fast-food hub “will not compromise the primacy” of hospitality venues in the city centre.
“The proposed development is intended to provide convenience offerings only to service local community needs and the needs of passing traffic,” she said.
“(It) will contribute to ongoing employment generating opportunities within the Municipality.”
