An Echuca meth trafficker who has been hooked on the gear for almost 15 years wants to pursue a career as a drug counsellor, a court has heard.

An Echuca father busted trafficking meth out of his family home who has been hooked on the for almost 15 years has told a court he wants to pursue a career helping others get clean.

Mark Holderhead, 43, pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to drug trafficking.

Police raided Holderhead’s High St home on September 4 last year, seizing 39g of pure methamphetamine valued at about $50,000 and a “military rifle”.

Police also seized a number of stolen items including two guitars and power tools.

Legal Aid barrister Robert Morgan said Holderhead had been dealing to fuel his “out of control” meth addiction spanning almost 15 years.

Mr Morgan said Holderhead had undergone rigorous drug rehabilitation to address his addiction after spending 195 days in pre-sentence detention, arguing for a sentence of time served.

The court heard Holderhead was now intending to start studying to pursue a career helping people overcome drug and alcohol addictions.

Magistrate Trieu Huynh indicated he would hand down a community based sentence in August designed to support Holderhead with his rehabilitation.
