A man is on the run after turning up to a motorbike sale with a machete before stealing the bike.

Police are appealing for information following the incident in Strathdale about 10.30pm Wednesday.

Officers were told the victim organised to sell his electric dirt bike via an online website, when a man in possession of a machete arrived outside the family home on Figtree Lane.

It’s believed the offender got out of a dark coloured hatch while the driver waited inside the car.

He flaunted a machete before stealing the motorbike and taking off towards Harley St.

The Surron brand dirt bike was grey coloured with orange handles.

Police believe the offender travelled on the bike from Strathdale towards the Bendigo CBD between 10.30 and 11pm.

Luckily, the victim was not injured during the offending.

Police patrolled the area but were unable to find the offender.

The male offender is described as being of caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall and aged in his late teens to early 20s.

He was wearing a black puffer jacket, dark hoody top and grey track suit pants.

The investigation remains ongoing and it’s understood a number of people were in the area at the time of the incident and investigators are keen to speak to them.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
