A man has been charged over the death of a 19-year-old Long Gully man killed in a horrific car crash on Sunday in Bendigo.
Jacob Catlin was the passenger in a car that allegedly veered off Powell St and into a business yard about 9.30am on July 28.
He tragically died at the scene while the driver, a 24-year-old Eaglehawk man, was taken to hospital under police guard before being charged by the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
The Eaglehawk man faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with dangerous driving causing death.
In the wake of the “devastating” crash Mr Catlin’s family created a memorial at the site of his tragic death.
“If anyone knows Jake and would like to visit we have started a memorial at the side of where his accident took place,” Brooke Morley, Mr Catlin’s aunty posted on Facebook.
Dozens of community members took to social media to offer their condolences to Mr Catlin’s devastated family.
Following the tragedy on Sunday Ms Morley set up a GoFundMe to support Mr Catlin’s mother Rochelle in the aftermath of Mr Catlin’s death, with more than $3000 raised of the $10,000 goal in just one day.
“In this unimaginably difficult time, we are coming together to support my sister and help alleviate some of the financial burdens she now faces such as funeral expenses and time off work as they grieve,” Ms Morley stated.
“Although no amount of money can ease the pain of this loss, your support at any level will help take some of the financial weight off my sister Rochelle and her partner as they navigate this journey.”
Mr Catlin’s family were contacted for comment.
