A methed up Bendigo dad caused a horrific head on collision in Kangaroo Flat with his kids in the car that hospitalised five people.

Bendigo father Jarred Lambie, 34, pleaded guilty to several driving offences after he veered into oncoming traffic, causing the horrific crash.

Lambie was driving his white Holden Commodore on Olympic Pde on January 14 with his three kids in the car before he collided with a white Toyota Land Cruiser between Collins St and Bryans St.

Both the driver of the Land Cruiser and Lambie had to be cut out of the cars, with all five people involved in the crash, including Lambie’s three children, taken to hospital.

A blood test revealed Lambie had methamphetamine and cannabis in his blood stream.

The court heard Lambie’s license was suspended at the time of the crash.

Lambie, who represented himself, said it was a “serious lapse of judgment” and he was “very remorseful” for putting his children and other road users at risk.

“I wish I could take it back and change it,” he said.

“It’s not like me at all.”

Lambie said his kids received seatbelt bruises while he copped “nine fractured ribs, punctured lung, two fractured vertebrae, fractured hip, shattered elbow, and snapped arm”.

Lambie said he had been unemployed due to injuries until about a month ago when he got a job with a concreting company.

Magistrate Dominic Lennon said the injuries and loss of work were “self-induced”.

“You were so close to inflicting major injury or death,” he said.

Mr Lennon was convicted and sentenced to a 12 month community corrections order and his licence was disqualified for 12 months.
