Firefighters rescue two dogs from mine shaft in Tarnagulla

Specialist crews from the CFA’s Oscar 1 Brigade have been called to save two dogs stuck 50m down a mine near Bendigo.

Two dogs were rescued from a mine shaft near Bendigo on Wednesday night.

It is understood someone heard dogs barking near Commercial Street in Tarnagulla and called emergency services about 6.30pm.

Five CFA vehicles and specialist mine rescue crews from Oscar 1 Brigade then attended the scene.

Crews dropped flares down the shaft and found two dogs 20m to 50m below ground.

Both dogs were successfully retrieved before 9pm and handed to the local ranger.
