Federal election 2022: Exit poll surveys 100 voters at Bendigo

There was a clear favourite for the seat of Bendigo following a straw poll on the early voters at pre-polling.

Labor is in the lead of an exclusive exit poll which surveyed early voters at Bendigo this week.

Bendigo News spoke to 100 voters at 47 Mitchell St polling booth on day two of pre-polling.

Forty-two said they were voting for Labor and 33 for the Liberal party.

The seat of Bendigo has been held by the Labor Party since 1998, with incumbent MP Lisa Chester in the seat since 2013.

Fourteen people voted for the Greens.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation and the United Australia Party received one and three votes, respectively.

The only independent running for the seat, and first on the ballot, James Laurie six votes from the anonymous voters.

Only one person voted for the Legalised Marijuana Party.

One woman, who wished to be anonymous, was close to tears when explaining why she wouldn’t be voting for the current government.

“If Scott Morrison wins, I’m moving to a different country,” she said.

Darin Schade, running for the Liberal Party, is third on the ballot this year.

One man said he hoped the United Australia Party would win.

“I have to believe in my heart that the United Australia Party will win,” he said.
