An Echuca dad who was allegedly busted with a horde of meth in his family home could “possibly” be linked to an outlaw bikie crew, a court has heard.

Mark Holderhead, 42, made a second bid for bail at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after he was remanded on meth trafficking and gun charges.

Police raided Mr Holderhead’s family home on High St Echuca on September 4, where they allegedly found 104g of methamphetamine valued at about $50,000 and a “military rifle” with the serial number filed off.

Police allege the methamphetamine Mr Holderhead was busted with had a street value of about $50,000.

Police also seized $12,000 in cash allegedly hidden in an air vent, suspected to be drug money.

Mr Holderhead’s attempt at bail was derailed by the prosecution revealing new evidence of his alleged drug trafficking and links to OMCG bikies.

The court heard police had hacked into Mr Holderhead’s phone, which allegedly revealed several messages relating to drug trafficking.

Police also allege “thousands” of images of firearms were found on Mr Holderhead’s phone.

Mr Holderhead’s lawyer Robert Morgan argued that Mr Holderhead should be released on bail after spending 105 days in custody.

Mr Morgan said the new evidence was “hearsay” and had been brought by police at “the worst possible time”.

Magistrate Russell Kelly, who previously refused Mr Holderhead bail in October, said the delay was Mr Holderhead’s own fault for not giving police access to his phone and forcing them to hack it.

Police claimed Mr Holderhead — who allegedly told police he was “loving the meth” — posed a risk to the community, alleging he would continue to sell drugs and was known to possess “stolen firearms”.

Due to the new evidence police allege further proved the case of drug trafficking against Mr Holderhead, and potentially exposed him to further charges relating to firearms, the bail application was refused.
