A gym junkie threatened his protein bar delivery guy with a taser and said he would murder his family because he overcharged him $10.

Christian Sales, 42, appeared in Melbourne County Court to plead guilty to making threats to kill and armed robbery following a deranged attack outside his mum’s Central Victorian home in October 2020.

The Maryborough man, who lives with his mother, had a longstanding agreement with Mason Taylor to buy his protein bars.

The court heard the two men had an arrangement that meant Sales got the first pick of the bars before Mr Taylor sold the rest on Facebook Marketplace.

The young entrepreneur visited the Maryborough apartment on Monday October 12 to check if he wanted more protein bars.

But was confronted by the gym junkie with an “aggressive demeanour” speaking in “gibberish” during a ten minute rant.

Mr Taylor said Sales accused him of overcharging by $10.

The victim tried to get in his car but was blocked by Sales, who had a hunting knife and taser visibly hanging from his belt.

Mr Taylor offered Sales some protein bars for free so he could leave, but the Maryborough man demanded all the boxes from his car.

“(Otherwise) he would hunt him and his family down and put them in the ground,” the court heard.

Sales activated the taser and while making fake punches at his victim, his forearm slammed into Mr Taylor’s head.

Mr Taylor unpacked $280 of product from his car as Sales “made zapping noises” while holding the buzzing taser.

After he unpacked the car Sales held the taser to his back and demanded he apologise to his mother.

Sale’s mother said she was embarrassed by the hostage’s apology.

As Mr Taylor left the apartment Sales zapped the taser at him but it didn’t make contact.

Police arrived at the Maryborough property the next day to find the protein bar boxes still lined on the front porch.

A raid of Sales’s bedroom uncovered a stash of cannabis, three shotgun shells, and the belt with the taser torch.

Sales told officers Mr Taylor offered him the free boxes as compensation for overcharging him.

On Wednesday August 25, Sales pleaded guilty to offences including armed robbery, drug possession, making threats to kill, weapons offences and assault.

Barrister Jo Swiney said her client suffered from serious mental health issues, and Judge Michael Bourke ordered a psychiatric report.

His bail was extended until he returns to court on Monday October 18.
