A child hit by a car outside a Bendigo high school is now in a stable, though serious, condition, while some students are too rattled to return to school after the “traumatic event”.
Police have finished investigating the crash on February 1, when a 13-year-old was hit outside Bendigo South East Secondary College.
Paramedics and other emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Curtin and Burrell streets just after 3pm.
It’s understood the girl was hit by a car and then hit her head on the road.
The teenager was taken to a Bendigo hospital before being flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
On Monday, the hospital confirmed she was in a serious, but stable condition.
Police said they had completed their investigation and deemed no offence to have been committed.
Parents, teachers and students were visibly upset at the scene, with tears flowing freely from some.
Principal Glen Donovan on Friday said Bendigo South East Secondary College was “providing support necessary for students and staff”.
“We’ve got some social workers for any of our students that have been affected by the traumatic event,” he said.
Mr Donovan said some students had not returned to school because they were struggling following the incident.
Bendigo South East Secondary College is a co-ed high school with classes for students in years 7 to 10.
About 1200 students attend the college.
