Bendigo’s Liam Wayman, 25, charged with strangling and bashing woman

A Bendigo man who allegedly boasted about Hells Angels links allegedly threatened to kill a woman and choked her until she “turned blue”, a court has heard.

A Bendigo man allegedly choked a woman until she “turned blue” before threatening to kill her, claiming he “owns the police” and has links to the “Hells Angels”, a court has heard.

Liam Wayman, 25, faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday vying for bail after being charged with the assault of a woman where he “possibly” broke her ribs.

Police allege Mr Wayman attacked the woman sometime between May and July.

Police allege Mr Wayman kicked the woman in the shin and ribs “with a steel cap boot” before punching her in the face, throwing her on the ground and standing on her chest, leaving her with possibly broken ribs and severe bruising.

Liam Wayman allegedly threatened to kill a woman, telling her he “owns the police” and has links to the “Hells Angels”.

Police allege that in August Mr Wayman threatened to kill the woman during a phone call that was recorded.

The court heard Mr Wayman allegedly made claims that he “owns the police”, had links to the “Hells Angels” and his “family are mafia like”.

Police allege Mr Wayman was manipulative, coercive and abusive towards the woman, posing great risk to her if released on bail.

Mr Wayman’s lawyer argued police had not provided medical evidence that an assault occurred, no evidence the woman was with him at the time of the alleged offending, or where the alleged assault took place.

Magistrate Sharon McRae found Mr Wayman to be an unacceptable risk towards the complainant and refused his bail application.

Mr Wayman will return to court in October.
