A Bendigo police officer allegedly sexually assaulted a woman as she drove him home from a night out while he was off duty.

Strathfieldsaye man Andrew Lawrence Cussen, 30, faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over three charges of sexual assault.

Witnesses told the court they understood Cussen to have allegedly put his hand on a woman’s leg, and some said between her legs as she, sober, drove him home from an event on the night of Anzac Day 2023.

She moved his hand away, they told the court, with some witnesses recalling being told Cussen mentioned the relief of sexual tension between the pair.

The court heard Cussen also allegedly made comments about going to Bendigo’s Mickey Mouse Hill Lookout.

On another occasion, he allegedly fell onto a woman while rollerblading and lay on her “to the point that it was awkward” – although one witness, who was present at the time, denied this occurred.

The committal will continue on Friday.
