A single mother of six children — one with cerebral palsy — and a separate family of six have been forced to reach out to the Bendigo community for help after their homes went up in flames.

On November 2, Jenna’s home caught fire, completely destroying it.

Her sister, Ashley Greenwood is now trying to raise more than $10,000 to help the single mum.

“We were able to recover some items but most were unsalvageable — either from being burnt or smoked damage,” Ms Greenwood posted.

“All money donated will be used to secure interim housing, purchase new clothing and eventually house furniture.

“Any amount you’re willing to contribute is so greatly appreciated and if you aren’t able to contribute money in these tough times, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.”

Ms Greenwood said her sister — who was renting the house — did not have contents insurance and also lost the family car and her kids’ toys.

“My sister is a caring, loving mother — this has been nothing but heartbreaking to see her and the kids go through this difficult time especially with Christmas approaching,” Ms Greenwood said.

“If I could raise some money to help Jenna and my nieces and nephews to find their feet again and enjoy the simple pleasures in life again that would mean the world to me.”

Just a week later on November 11, another Bendigo family of six also lost their home to a fire.

Friend Mel Grant is trying to support parents Russell and Amanda Finemore by raising $20,000.

“Precious memories, irreplaceable possessions and a place they call home went up in flames,” Ms Grant said.

“Everything in their home affected by flames, smoke and water damage needs to be replaced.”

Ms Grant said the Finemore family was surrounded by an incredible community, friends, and family.

“So let’s show them how much we love them in this time of need,” she said.

“By coming together, we can alleviate the unthinkable loss and help this amazing family get back on their feet.”

All donations will support the family to purchase new furnishings, clothing and home goods.

“The family will be forever grateful for your donations, love and support,” Ms Grant said.

In relation to the November 11 house fire, a police spokesperson said all occupants were safely evacuated from the home.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious,” the spokesperson said.

Anyone who witnessed either incident, has CCTV, has dashcam footage or additional information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000 or contact the Bendigo police station on (03) 5448 1300.
