A Wonthaggi woman will have to complete 80 hours of community work after she was busted trafficking drugs.

Emily Louise Frazer faced the Wonthaggi Magistrates Court on Friday in relation to drug charges after police carried out a warrant at her Wonthaggi address on November 19, 2020.

During the warrant police found bags of dried cannabis, mixed cannabis and tobacco, a small amount of meth and oxycontin tablets.

During the warrant police also seized a mobile phone which the court heard showed texts which indicated Frazer had been selling cannabis.

The court heard that Frazer, who worked as a petrol station attendant, admitted to possessing the drugs during a police interview.

She also told police she smoked cannabis and claimed to selling it “a bit”.

Her defence lawyer said she had tried to participate in treatment for her drug use but had ultimately not completed the program due to non attendance and non compliance.

He submitted Frazer had suffered from multiple brain injuries early in life which affected her “ability to make proper decisions”.

“[She] made bad decisions all her life because of her brain injuries,” Mr Ewart told the court.

He also submitted cannabis was a drug which was “not as serious” as other drugs.

“It is cannabis - it isn’t something more devious,” he said.

However, Magistrate Suzette Dootjes said she did regard the trafficking as serious.

“The trafficking of the cannabis is serious. The trafficking of cannabis does pose risks to the community. You [Frazer] enable other people to continue to consume illegal drugs,” she said while delivering Frazer’s sentence.

Frazer was handed a 12-month community corrections order for which she will have to complete 80 hours of unpaid community work as well as undergo treatment for drug use.
