A prolific thief is set to walk free from jail after serving just over a month behind bars.

Nakkia Steed, 25, faced the Korumburra Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where she pleaded guilty to a series of petrol, car and licence plate thefts.

The court heard Steed stole a Toyota Corolla from Croydon between August 13 and 14 last year before she stole licence plates from a sedan in the Bayswater area and swapped them with those on the stolen Corolla.

She stole more licence plates from Traralgon on August 26 and on August 31 she drove to a Leongatha petrol station and filled up the stolen Corolla with $71.60 of petrol but drove off without paying.

She stole more licence plates in Frankston on September 9.

On September 13 police attended her Mornington property and found the stolen plates attached to the stolen Corolla, but at that time did not register the car itself as being stolen.

A search uncovered more stolen plates in another car parked at the property.

On September 21 police found the stolen Corolla without any plates attached dumped in Mt Eliza.

Steed was arrested and interviewed in November and she denied involvement in the thefts but said she “knew the cars and plates were dodgy”.

She stole more petrol from Leongatha BP in January as well as a speaker worth almost $700.

Steed was intercepted by police driving a stolen Subaru XV in Dandenong North in March.

Steed holds a disqualified learner’s permit.

The court was told she had spent 39 days in custody as of Thursday.

She will be assessed for a community corrections order before her release.
