Two people have a nearby cruise ship and police to thank for rescuing them in the dark of night after they got stuck near Skull Rock at Wilsons Promontory.
Police believe the man and woman were on-board a boat which got into trouble about 10pm on Monday night.
The duo abandoned the boat and jumped into its attached dingy before activating an emergency beacon to grab attention.
The air wing began circling the area and managed to locate the duo in their dinghy about midnight on Tuesday.
The chopper relayed information to authorities, who contacted a nearby cruise ship in Bass Strait to ask for assistance.
A rescue craft was deployed from the cruise ship and it managed to locate the duo and take them from the dinghy and safely on board.
The man and woman were uninjured despite their ordeal.
