Punters were all ready to dress to impress at the Maffra Cup, but the event has been abandoned due to heavy rainfall overnight.
Hosted at the Sale Turf Club, the cup was expected to welcome racegoers through the gates from 11am on Sunday.
However, the club had to break the news of cancelling the thrilling race day in the morning.
“Sale Races Today — Abandoned!”, the Sale Turf Club shared to their Facebook page.
“Unfortunately, due to receiving over 42mm of rain overnight, today’s races at Sale have been abandoned.
“While disappointed we can’t host you today, we look forward to seeing you Tuesday the 23rd of April!.”
The Sale Turf Club is known for hosting popular race days, most notably the Ladbrokes Sale Cup and the “Carols & Barrels” Christmas races event.
Racegoers can still enjoy a day out filled with horse racing action on April 23.
