Gippsland parents have been left terrified after a man tried to lure a primary school student to his car with the promise of puppies.
Police are calling for information after receiving reports the man, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, asked the child to follow him to “see his puppies” on Wednesday morning.
It’s understood the child was walking to the local primary school Yarram along Commercial Rd when they were approached.
The student ran away and immediately told their teacher.
The child told Yarram Police the man had grey-white hair, was of a large to overweight build, and was wearing hi-vis clothing.
Local parents were shocked on social media, concerned about the safety of their children.
“Having four kids who catch the bus daily this is very scary,” Kylie Snape wrote.
“Could of (sic) easily been my daughter. I was down in that area around the time doing the school run. But I didn‘t see anything,” Shaun Clark wrote.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Yarram Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
