Police will double their presence in Phillip Island as 5000 Schoolies celebrate the end of the school year — the biggest crowd in recent years.

Senior Sergeant Scott Morison said the operation would begin on November 29 and crack down on drugs, underage drinking and drunken behaviour.

“Extra police will be deployed on the Bass Coast in what is expected to be one of the busiest Schoolies weeks,” Sergeant Morison said.

The safety of the community will be a top priority throughout the most active week, which is set to begin on November 29.

“We have a zero tolerance towards drugs and if people are found to be in possession or selling illicit drugs they will be arrested and charged,” Sergeant Morrison said.

A Protection Unit from Morwell will join the Bass Coast force to help manage the crowds as well as DanceWize and Red Frogs.

Sergeant Morison is appealing to the local community to report any inappropriate behaviour to their local policing unit.

To report any crimes call 131 444 or use the Online Reporting portal.

In case of an emergency call triple-0.
