Police are on the hunt for hoons who rammed a cop car in a stolen vehicle that was later set on fire in the backstreets of Phillip Island.

Senior Sergeant Scott Morison said an EF Ford Falcon, stolen from a Cape Woolamai property, was seen doing burnouts in Wonthaggi CBD in the early hours of Sunday, April 25.

Sen-Sgt Morison said the driver was “speeding through roundabouts” and “baiting police” to pull them over.

“At one point the passenger in the car was out the window believed to be filming the police vehicle,” Sen-Sgt Morison said.

He said after the driver did more burnouts, the stolen Falcon rammed a police car, which was parked near the Murray and McKenzie streets intersection.

“An officer was in the car at the time,” Sen-Sgt Morison said.

“He was shaken but not hurt.”

The stolen car was later found burnt on the corner of Pyramid Rock and Ventnor Beach roads in Ventnor.

The Falcon was a gift from the victim’s grandpa who recently passed away.

Sen-Sgt Morison said the investigation was ongoing.

“Police would love to hear from anyone that may have dashcam footage and saw the vehicle driving erratically in Wonthaggi or surrounding areas on the night,” he said.

If you have any information about the incident, call Crime Stoppers.
