The Covid case detected in the Bass Coast is linked to the Trinity Grammar outbreak, health officials say.

The state’s health department announced the case on Thursday afternoon but was included in Friday’s numbers.

Health Minister Martin Foley said the person was a staff member from Trinity Grammar.

“They have been in quarantine for the entire time of their infectious period and was actually in Phillip Island therefore explaining the wastewater detection in that part of Victoria earlier in the week,” he said.

The department said the case has a second residence in the area.

A Gippsland health unit spokesperson said the person did not present a risk to the community as they had been in quarantine.

This comes as six friends tested positive after visiting Phillip Island and San Remo from July 12 to July 15.

The group visited more than 30 sites, including Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, A Maze N Things Theme Park, North Pier Hotel and Coles in Cowes.

The unexpected Covid viral fragments were found in wastewater samples between July 17 and July 19 in the area.

The suburbs of concern included Cape Woolamai, Corinella, Coronet Bay, Cowes, Dalyston, Grantville, Kilcunda, Newhaven, Pioneer Bay, San Remo, Smiths Beach, Sunset Strip, Surf Beach, Tenby Point, Ventnor and Wimbledon Heights.
