A Rawson man who was tragically killed in a car crash has been remembered by family and friends for his “heart of gold” and “kind soul”.

Matt Baker died after his car lost control and crashed into a tree in Tyers on Tyers-Walhalla Rd about 5.30pm on August 10.

Friends said the 20-year-old had a “cheeky sense of humour”.

Harry Ewings said he was “one in a million”.

“I’ll always cherish the memories and moments we have spent together since we met when we were about six or seven, just young pups,” Mr Ewings wrote on Facebook.

“You will always hold a big place in my broken heart mate.”

Alysha Clarke said Matt was like a brother to her.

“You always knew what to say or do in any situation whether it was what I wanted to hear or not,” she said.

“I will miss the jokes and fun times as well as the life advice.”

Other friends said Matt had a “kind soul” and loved camping, going to the snow, drinking at the pub and driving in the bush.

“You were far too young and full of life to be taken from this world,” Cheyenne Ellen wrote on Facebook.

“You always lit up every room you walked into and made everyone smile.”

“Your gift was always knowing when someone needed you most and knowing the right things to say, even if it was hard for them to hear,” Sarah Orton said.

“Your friendship has been nothing less than perfect.”

Matt’s former football club Hill End said players would wear black arm bands at this week’s game.

“The Hill End FNC would like to pass on our deepest condolences after the tragic passing of Matthew Baker,” the club said on Facebook.

“We will be donning black arms bands in commemoration this Saturday when we return to the field and court.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
