An animal killer is on the run after shooting wallabies on a Phillip Island golf course.

Sergeant Chris Brinkman said police were called to Settlement Rd in Cowes on August 8 after a person walking their dog found two dead wallabies on a golf course.

Sgt Brinkman said the attack happened overnight between August 7 and August 8.

He said a small calibre rifle was used to shoot the wallabies on the 13th and 16th green.

“It’s obviously fairly concerning to us,” Sgt Brinkman said.

“We have increased patrols, especially overnight in that area.”

Sgt Brinkman said police didn’t receive any calls about the incident on the night but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
