After a popular glamping business was forced to move from a Phillip Island holiday park, a Mornington Peninsula woman had a plan to rebrand and revive it.

Originally known as Phillip Island Glamping, the bell tent business was permanently set up at NRMA Phillip Island Holiday Park but was forced to move on earlier this year as the Cowes foreshore location was no longer available.

Owner Serena Cabello decided to sell and Carla Wordsworth saw it as a great opportunity to buy and rebrand it after working in the events industry for 15 years.

“When the business came up for sale, we thought it was a good fit for us and our family,” Ms Wordsworth said.

“We love camping and have done it for many years now, however in more recent times, our set ups have become much more like ‘glamping’ with all the added little luxuries we now include.

“We know what people need to enjoy a glamping experience and want to share our love for it.”

Ms Wordsworth rebranded the business to Getaway Glamping and now offers luxury glamping set ups at homes and private events in Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula.

“As we no longer have the beautiful Cowes foreshore location to set up at permanently, we now come to our customers whether that be for an event, wedding, campsite, private property or backyard escape,” she said.

“Think of us as a mobile glamping hire service.”

Private glamping set ups have increased in popularity due to the state’s lengthy lockdowns.

As city escapes and regional travel were off limits, Victorians splashed cash at making memories from the comfort of their backyard.

Aspiring Parkdale musician Belle Lynch launched Melbourne Glamping last year after losing work singing in bars and restaurants.

Her business has become highly successful, catching the eye of well-known customers such as Bec Judd, who recently celebrated her twin son’s fifth birthday with a sea theme set up.

Just like Ms Lynch, Ms Wordsworth said she is looking forward to growing Getaway Glamping.

“At the moment it is just me with some help from members of my family,” she said.

“However, we are looking to expand our team very, very soon as we already need the assistance.”

Ms Wordsworth said Getaway Glamping is perfect for people of all ages.

“It’s an experience everyone can enjoy — even if you aren’t the avid camper.”
