A Moe abattoir worker with a violent temper had an unusual excuse when police uncovered weapons and drugs at his home.

Australia's growing drug crisis

A Moe abattoir worker will be assessed for a community corrections order after he was found in possession of drugs which he claimed he “found at a primary school”.

Luke Sellings, 27, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday including possession of weapons and drugs and unlawful assault.

The court heard Sellings claimed to have “found” the weapons and drugs and had forgotten to get rid of them.

In October 2020 police conducted a search warrant at his property where they found a slingshot and ball bearings, fire crackers and two capsules of Methylphenidate, commonly known as ritalin or concerta, which he did not carry a prescription for.

The court heard Sellings claimed he “found” the capsules at a local primary school and “assumed they were ritalin” because “a lot of kids are on ritalin”.

He also claimed he had found the slingshot and firecrackers and had “forgotten to throw them out”.

In December 2021 Sellings attended Rookies Pizza Bar and Grill in Moe. The court heard he brought his own alcohol to the venue which was not allowed.

A member of staff informed Sellings he was not permitted to have his own alcohol on the premises and tipped it down a sink.

The court heard Sellings was angered by this and threw a drink at the staff member.

The staff member asked Sellings to leave and escorted him outside. The court heard once the pair were outside Sellings grabbed the staff member by the arms and pushed him up against a wall.
