Lang Lang Primary School forced to install CCTV over vandals

Lang Lang Primary has been hit with a wave of crime, with grass ripped up by motorbikes, storm water pipes broken, doors kicked in and broken and windows smashed. But now the school is taking matters into its own hands.

A local school has been forced to install a “costly” security system after thugs continually destroyed the grounds outside of school hours.

Lang Lang Primary School has been the target of vandals for months, with a considerable amount of damage done to school property.

In a letter that was sent to parents on October 6, Principal Sharon Mitchell said the school was not a public place.

“Unfortunately we are dealing with more and more vandalism and destruction to our school property that is occurring outside of school hours,” she said.

The damage includes large areas of grass ripped up by motorbikes, rubbish bins overturned, storm water pipes broken, external doors kicked in and broken, windows smashed, airconditioning units damaged and roof guttering pulled off and bent.

“The ongoing cost to our school to repair the damaged caused by a few is becoming considerable,” Ms Mitchell said.

“These are all costs that take away from us being able to spend on items and programs that enhance our teaching and learning programs.”

The school has installed a “considerably costly security system”.

“This CCTV system will enable us to provide evidence to police following identified damage to our school property with the aim of stopping the ongoing damage and destruction,” Ms Mitchell said.

She urged parents to contact the police if they witness any person causing damage or behaving suspiciously in the school grounds.

Locals in a community group were outraged about the damage, calling it “disgraceful” and “despicable”.

“It sucks when such a great, small town starts to get developed so much that things like this start to happen. It makes me worried it will become a lot like suburban towns,” a local said.

“Sounds like a group of dickheads who are repeat offenders … disgraceful behaviour by whoever is doing it,” another person said.

Lang Lang Police Station have been contacted for comment.
