Hundreds of enthusiastic punters and fashionistas trekked to the Ladbrokes Stony Creek Cup.

The gates of the Stony Creek Racing Club opened from 11.30am Sunday.

The first race kicked off at 12.30pm, followed by eight more races, with the cup commencing at 4.40pm and the final race at 5.15pm.

Apart from the racing, there was plenty of activities trackside, including the fashions on the field competition.

Stony Creek Racing Club chief executive Adam Olszanski said ahead of the event they were fortunate that it won’t be as hot as some other parts of the state.

“We’re expecting 30 or 40C,” Mr Olszanski said.

“Being where we’re located, we’ve got great proximity to the beaches and the great holiday locations down here in South Gippsland — so plenty of people get away for the long weekend.”

“We’re expecting about two and a half thousand people here on Sunday.

“We’ve got all our marquees and reserved tables all booked out — they were booked out earlier in the week.

“We’ve got plenty of space for general admission with shaded areas under the gum trees and plenty of tables for people that just want to rock up on the day and enjoy a good day of country racing.”

Mr Olszanski added there would be plenty of entertainment for kids, wildlife shows, pony rides, face painting and live music.

“It’s a big day for the community because five community clubs all assist us in putting on the events by providing us with workers for the day.

“And we pay their clubs — so it’s a huge fundraiser for those five clubs.”

The Herald Sun attended the cup to take pictures of racegoers strutting their style, and plenty of poses and smiles were spotted on camera.
