Deadwood removed from Inverloch’s Anderson Inlet

A popular Inverloch beach has been cleaned after becoming an eyesore with branches littering the shore for months.

Deadwood has been removed from a popular Inverloch beach after locals called for it to go.

Anderson Inlet has been covered in large pieces of deadwood for months, with branches obstructing the sand and shallow parts of the water.

Bass Coast Shire Council cleared the branches with an excavator on Thursday afternoon.

Residents and frequent holiday-makers were glad to see the deadwood removed, with many saying it was a fire hazard and “dangerous for swimmers and walkers”.

“The beach is very popular with young families and needs some repair and conservation work,” one local said.

Another said it was “an eyesore compared to other beachfront towns all the way and down the coast.”

Others have disagreed with the removal of the deadwood, saying to “leave it alone” and “let nature sort it out”.

A Bass Coast Shire Council spokeswoman told The Bass Coast News the deadwood was “obstructing pedestrian movements”.

Inverloch’s beaches have been the subject to close examination after significant erosion has occurred over the years.

The state government is currently undertaking comprehensive coastal erosion study which will be completed by November 2021.
