Whether it’s a chardonnay or a shiraz, there’s nothing better than enjoying a fine wine in the most picturesque spots in Gippsland.
Now that restrictions have eased, The Bass Coast News has compiled a list of the top wineries in the area that you need to visit.
PURPLE HEN WINERY
Purple Hen Winery is a family owned and operated business that has been running since 2001.
They produce premium cool climate wines in Rhyll, overlooking the Bay of Western Port with views of Swan Inlet, Churchill Island and Denne Bight.
The vineyard is currently 9.5 hectares and the business has won over 100 medals and 20 trophies at wine shows across Australia.
DIRTY THREE WINES
Dirty Three Wines is a small winery located in Inverloch that is run by husband and wife Lisa Sartori and Marcus Satchell.
Mr Satchell spent the last 12 years in Gippsland so there isn’t much about vineyards and wines that he doesn’t know.
Whether it’s pruning vines, tractor work, netting, mowing or taking deliveries around the countryside, Ms Sartori will welcome you with her warm smile.
THE GURDIES WINERY
The Gurdies Winery has been established for 40 years and is now operated by third owner and winemaker, Dick Wettenhall.
The winery overlooks Western Port Bay and features an extensive garden area with barbecue facilities.
The Gurdies Winery produces a range of varietal and blended wines made from eight varieties of Estate-grown grapes, using traditional winemaking processes.
HARMAN WINES
Located just 10 minutes from Inverloch, Harman Wines is a family run business in Wattle Bank.
About 15 years ago, David and Nicole Harman dreamt of opening a winery and cellar door and in November 2014, that dream became a reality.
Since day one the very core of their business has always been about celebrating all things local to the area.
The Harman Wines team pride themselves on giving customers a great cellar door experience and providing a relaxed environment where friends and families can meet, eat and drink.
PHILLIP ISLAND WINERY
Phillip Island Winery is located in Ventnor and is run by three groups of friends.
Whether you visit for the food or the wine made from the local Gipplsand region, you’re bound to have a great time.
The winery also holds numerous events throughout the year including weddings and business functions.
WARATAH HILLS VINEYARD
With a recent change of ownership, Waratah Hills Vineyard is due to re-open within the next couple of weeks.
The vineyard was planted 15 years ago with pinot noir, chardonnay and merlot varieties in the Burgundy style of low trellising and close planting.
Waratah Hill Vineyard is located in Fish Creek, on the way to Wilsons Promontory.
FRENCH ISLAND VINEYARDS
Established in 1998, French Island Vineyards is a small family run winery.
The vines are hand pruned and the fruit is hand picked at optimum ripeness.
French Island Vineyards produce award-winning cool climate pinot noir, pinot gris and shiraz and host wine events at their cellar door.
