The Bass Coast community gathered in the heart of Inverloch for an action-packed street party, which was also the launch of the $18m Dinosaurs Trail Project.
The street party on A’Beckett St welcomed guests from 5pm on Thursday.
The event was supported by a $5000 Bass Coast Shire Council community grant and 400 hours of volunteer time by the organisers who are members of the Inverloch Tourism Association.
“It’s a late night shopping event but it is also a dinosaur festival which we hope gets bigger each year as we work to put Inverloch on the map as Victoria’s Dinosaur Capital,” Inverloch Tourism Association member Monique Wilson said ahead of the event.
The party featured lifelike dinosaurs as well as other dino-themed activities.
“Our tagline is the Inverloch Street Festival is going to be huge — we have real life dinosaurs arriving — and will roam the streets of Inverloch for the first time in 126 million years,” Ms Wilson said.
Inverloch shops and traders also stayed open late and there were more than 20 market stalls to check out — so people were able to get their Christmas shopping done.
More than 10 community groups also attended with demonstrations, information stands and a scout sausage sizzle.
Adults enjoyed a refreshing beverage from Kombi Keg and Dirty 3 wines while listening to local musicians, while kids enjoyed dinosaur hunts, rock painting, a colouring competition, games and a visit from Santa Claus.
To add to the exciting evening, there was a special appearance from a palaeontologist who chatted about all things dinosaurs.
