A Grantville man was capsicum sprayed after he allegedly attacked a cop while trying to escape a Covid checkpoint.
Senior Sergeant Peter Watson said a 38-year-old man was pulled into a checkpoint in Grantville around 4.40pm on Sunday.
The man was asked to undergo a preliminary drug test but he allegedly refused and tried to drive away.
Police tried to stop him when he allegedly grabbed a police officer’s arm.
The Grantville man was capsicum sprayed and charged with refusing a drug test and unlicensed driving.
Meanwhile, another driver was charged after he allegedly tried to avoid police in Wonthaggi.
Sen-Sgt Watson said police tried to pull over a 23-year-old man who was allegedly driving unlicensed on Graham St around 5.11pm on Sunday.
It’s alleged the driver accelerated away from police and was clocked doing 87km/h in a
50km/h zone.
Sen-Sgt Watson said the Wonthaggi man turned himself in later that day and was charged with evading police, unregistered driving and speeding.
