A Gippsland motocross rider has suffered from spinal injuries following an accident, with a long recovery process ahead of him.

Matt Manks is well known throughout the Gippsland MX scene and required surgery after injuring his back on September 23.

A friend of Mr Manks, Peter Wolfe, has organised a GoFundMe fundraiser and almost $1300 has been raised so far.

“Matt is a legend of a human being, and a great friend, riding buddy and competitor to many of us in the moto community,” Mr Wolfe wrote on the page.

Mr Wolfe also said it was fortunate for Mr Manks as he regained feeling in his legs after his operation.

He added Mr Manks was well known throughout the Gippsland MX scene and took a spot on the gate in the Vet Class consistently at all local events.

“When he's not racing, Matt’s pretty much become part of the furniture at PBI Ride Farm, where he has ridden almost every other weekend over the last few years,” Mr Wolfe said.

“Heal up buddy!” a person from Wolf Building Compliance commented.
