Pedestrian killed in alleged hit-run collision on Waterloo Rd in Trafalgar identified as 53-year-old man from Morwell

The body of a man that was discovered by a passer-by following an alleged hit-run collision in Trafalgar has been identified as a 53-year-old from Morwell.

The body that was discovered by a passer-by following an alleged hit-run collision in Gippsland has been identified as a 53-year-old man from Morwell.

Investigators believe the pedestrian was hit by a truck on Waterloo Rd, east of Davey Drive, in Trafalgar sometime overnight on Saturday or early Sunday morning,

where the driver did not stop at the scene.

The man was last seen walking east along Waterloo Rd, about 50m east of Middle Rd at 7.10pm on Saturday, where his body was found about 10.30am the next morning.

He had a grey beard, was barefoot and wearing a black tracksuit top, a white chequered shirt and black trackpants with two white stripes down the sides.

On Tuesday night, a 43-year-old Fumina South man handed himself in at a police station, where he assisted police and was released pending further inquiries.

MCIU detective Sergeant Peter Romanis said the man could have been dead on the side of the road for hours before he was found by the in-shock passer-by.

He added the passer-by had to double check that what they saw was actually a body.

At the time, police checked aged care facilities in the surrounding areas but none had reported anyone missing.

Approximately 80 pieces of debris were collected at the collision, which included white paint flecks, fragments of glass, plastic and indicator lights.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
